What is FinUnions?

FinUnions (former KEY Finland) was created jointly by the Finnish trade union confederations SAK, STTK and AKAVA. It started its operations in Finland and moved to Brussels when Finland jointed the European Union.

FinUnions represents altogether around two million Finnish wage-earners.

Promoting interests
Disseminating information

FinUnions has two priorities. It promotes the interests of Finnish wage-earners in European integration-related policy and collective bargaining and disseminates information on the European Union to its founder organisations.

FinUnions monitors labour market related matters in EU institutions together with the Finnish wage-earners organisations and maintains relations with key players.

SAK, STTK and AKAVA are members of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions ICFTU, the European Trade Union Confederation ETUC the Council of Nordic Trade Unions NFS and the Trade Union Advisory Committee to the OECD (TUAC).

FinUnions also co-operates with thes organisations.

About the three organisations

There are three union confederations in Finland.

SAK is central organisation for workers with 22 affiliated unions with an overall membership of over 1.000.000. About 46 % of the membership is in the manufacturing sector, 28 % in private services and 26 % in the public sector. The majority of the SAK`s women members work in the service sector and men in manufacturing sector.

STTK is a white-collar confederation with a total membership of 640.000. The members of the 21 affiliated unions word in industry, the service sector and health care, special sectors and in the municipal and state sectors.

AKAVA is a Confederation of Unions for Academic Professionals. AKAVA comprises 32 member unions with an overall membership of 436.000. Members of AKAVA are employed in the public (little over 60 %) and private sectors (nearly 40 %) as managers, directors and specialists.
